Mr. Shook has taught and worked internationally as a journalism professor and television news trainer and consultant. He established the broadcast journalism program at Colorado State University, where he served as director of broadcast journalism for 31 years. Additionally, he served as visiting professor at Indiana University and the University of Oklahoma.

As a scriptwriter, Mr. Shook has received international acclaim including the CINE Golden Eagle Award, and the Agro Film Award. He was inducted as a National Television Academy Silver Circle Member in 2005.
